Skeffling is a village and civil parish in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England, in an area known as Holderness. It is situated approximately 5 miles (8 km) south of the town of Withernsea and 4 miles (6.4 km) south-east of the village of Patrington on the B1445 road from Patrington to Easington. The Patrols Operations Base (OB) existed underneath two old cottages and you entered the OB via a trap door under a pile of bricks next to the East wall of the cottages.

The chamber which was under one of the cottages ground floors was revetted with corrugated iron sheeting and had an escape exit consisting of a short tunnel with a hatch into the scullery floor of the adjoining cottage. Bunk beds lined two of the walls with a hinged wooden table and elsan toilet. A telephone line linked the OB with nearby Winsetts Farm. Mr Charlie Hills, the Landowner informed me that a few years ago 3 of them used a digger to try and find the Observation Post (OP) but other than a few sheets of corrugated Iron no trace was found.

We do not know the Patrols Targets and we can only guess but it seems that shipping observation could of played a major role as they are not far from the Humber bank. The main road to the coast also runs through Patrington and observation of this road may well have been vital.

An unusual story emerged when researching this Patrol, it involves one of the Patrol members Leonard Medforth (Pictured below) and his single handed capture of a crashed German Dornier at Skeffling. Leonard was congratulated on his deed by some very high ranking people and establishments, none more so that the HQ of the British Resistance itself at Coleshill House. On his letter you clearly see the address as C/O GPO Highworth. Upon researching into this subject I came across the crews names and addresses which are below too. Altogether this made the story of this Patrol come alive and all relevant information was passed onto the family's concerned

A very nice story is connected with this Unit, one of the Unit Members, Pte Leonard Medforth (left), distinguished himself when in 1943 he carried out the arrest single-handed of the crew of a German Dornier aircraft which landed in Out Newton.

It seems this action went right to the top, even to Coleshill as we see letters of commendation from quite a few sources including the Chief Constable of Beverley Police and GHQ Auxiliary Units nicely addressed as C/O GPO, Highworth, Swindon.
