SS Empire Bell

On the 26th September 1942 5 shipmates from Hull lost their lives on board the SS Empire Bell .The 1744 ton South Shields registered steamer was outward bound from Reykjavik to Hull with a cargo of Vehicles in convoy UR 42, but unfortunately she was torpedoed at 1616 wsw of the Faroes by U442. 10 crew were lost and 27 saved. The unfortunate heroes of Hull were as follows

Kenneth Cressey 27,  AB, Son of Arthur and Harriet Cressay

Leonard Middleton Boughen 27,AB, Son of Athur Middleton Boughen and Ellen Boughen.

Harry Green 32 Fireman/Trimmer, Husband of Evelyn.

George Hunter 20, Sailor, Son of Mr & Mrs W Hunter.

Jack Lidster 22, Sailor, Son of Charles & Anne of Beverley.
