Raid No. 7

The Air Raid Warning sounded at 20.46 hours and at 02.35 hours on the 28th August, three H E bombs were dropped in the Eastern Division. One H E was dropped on the Drypool Goods Yard, and two were dropped in the garden of the lodge of Hedon Road Maternity Hospital. One house at the latter address was demolished and one railway warehouse at Drypool Goods Yard. In addition to the foregoing there were 187 houses slightly damaged and nine other buildings. There was only one casualty, a man suffering from shock. The two H E Bombs which fell in the garden of the Maternity Home fell at either side causing craters. The sides of the shelter were caved in by the explosion but the three occupants escaped injury.
