Raid No 44

At 22.30 hours on the 2nd June 1941 the air raid warning sounded and the raiders passed signal was sounded at 23.55 hours without any incident being reported. As the raiders passed was being sounded an enemy plane dropped bombs HE on No 73 Marlborough Avenue, in 46 Blenheim Street, at the junction of Princes Avenue and Park Grove and at the corner of Margaret Street. Owing to the fact that the All Clear was being sounded people were leaving their shelters and consequently casualties were heavier than normal, 23 people being killed and 15 seriously injured. All the bombs fell on residential property and several houses were demolished.
